New York, NY, May 2009 – New York-based global materials consultancy Material ConneXion will make the public debut of its Innovation Lab – an interactive exploration center featuring the latest advanced and sustainable materials – at this year's International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York City, from May 16-19, 2009 at The Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, Booth #2348.
Recently featured as an “innovation tool” in BusinessWeek, Material ConneXion's first Innovation Lab launched in May 2008 at Haworth, Inc's new corporate headquarters in Holland, Michigan. Material ConneXion has partnered with Fabric Images, Inc., the premier fabricators of printed fabric architecture, to build the latest version of this dynamic exhibition, which will be unveiled to the public for the first time at ICFF 2009.
Material ConneXion's Innovation Lab will provide viewers with invaluable insight into the material directions that are driving innovation and empowering design. With a display of cutting-edge materials, including an assemblage of large-format material samples, the lab will offer a variety of opportunities for physical interaction and intellectual stimulation. A highlight of the Innovation Lab will be a selection of groundbreaking products that demonstrate an exceptional use of advanced materials and a clear commitment to the environment. Among these are adidas' Lone Star Shoe, designed exclusively for Olympic athlete Jeremy Wariner, which contains multiple pioneering technologies including a customized high-strength textile sourced from Material ConneXion's Materials Library; Klattermusen's rECOver backpack, the world's first 100% recycled nylon bag of its kind; and a radical new fishing rod that represents the latest in high-tech sustainable materials through its use of a newly developed nanofiber composite derived from carrots.
Given the current state of the global economy, more and more companies are seeing innovation as the best way to accelerate growth. Material ConneXion's Innovation Lab – an offering that builds upon its consulting and materials library services – can expand innovation company-wide by connecting business and their employees to the materials expertise they need to stay competitive. Forward-thinking companies can utilize this unique material experience as a vehicle for communication, allowing Material ConneXion to customize an Innovation Lab that reinforces their corporate values, emphasizes their products and services, and demonstrates their commitment to innovation and technology. Visitors to ICFF 2009 will have an opportunity experience this extraordinary innovation tool at work as they discover the ecologically sound and advanced materials that are having the greatest impact on design worldwide.
Material ConneXion's showroom will remain open during the weekend of ICFF, giving visitors an opportunity to see the company's new corporate headquarters at 60 Madison Avenue and current exhibition of work by Neal Small, the seminal 1960's furniture and lightning designer.
