Who’s Who? Meet the Material ConneXion Staff
In order to ensure continuity for all clients, Material ConneXion’s
Management is actively involved with each client and project, across
all services. This unique approach guarantees full service from
key MC personnel and delivers a consistent, reliable approach to
each client’s needs.
George M. Beylerian founded Material ConneXion in 1997 and
is President and CEO. In addition to his duties as Chief Executive,
he is the company strategist for marketing and research initiatives
and is principally responsible for developing the company’s
Global relationships. For the ten years prior, Beylerian was Creative
Director of Steelcase Design Partnership where he developed design
and marketing strategy for the Partnership’s corporations.
Over the previous decades, Beylerian’s vision introduced a
number of influential design trends. In the late 60s, he pioneered
America’s appetite for Italian design with the introduction
of functional plastic, Italian-styled home furnishings—The
Beylerian Collection. During the 70s, Beylerian
Casa Idea shop in Manhattan’s key store, Bloomindale’s,
became the first sophisticated lifestyle, freestanding separate
boutique in the country. In the 1980s Beylerian’s contract
furniture division attracted a broad range of clients, including
The National Gallery, which ordered 1,000 units of the Joe Colombo
Chair for its I.M. Pei Wing. He has created important design exhibitions
and directed the book publications of these exhibits: Mondo Materialis,
exhibition book Mondo Materialis, published by Harry N. Abrams,
Industrial Elegance, Edible Architecture/Delicious Designs,
Communicating Ideas Artfully, Women of Design, as
well as Chairmania, based on Beylerian’s book by the
same title, published by Harry N. Abrams. He produced WorkLife

Michele Caniato has been with Material ConneXion since its inception and has worked tirelessly to grow the business and become Executive Vice President and shareholder. As such he can be credited with collaborating with founder George M. Beylerian to turn ideas into tangible realities that successfully service the design industry and its partners.
A graduate of the Polytechnic University of Milan, Italy, Michele brings his Master's degree in architecture and industrial design, family ties to the design world and innate energy and problem-solving ability to the day-to-day activities of Material ConneXion-which include operation of the New York facility, long term strategy, financial management, key accounts sales and management, and all human resource functions. Under Michele's aegis, Material ConneXion has established three international affiliates, Bangkok, Thailand, Cologne, Germany and Milan, Italy.
In addition to managing the daily operations of Material ConneXion, Michele is also President of Culture & Commerce, a design management consultancy that represents such talents as Philippe Starck, Marcel Wanders, Dror Benshetrit and Yves Behar.

Andrew Dent joined Material ConneXion in April 2001 as the Director of Library and Materials Research and in 2005 was promoted to Vice President and shareholder. Accountable for management of the library team and physical and virtual archives, he will also be responsible for the focus of research into current and emerging trends in the field of materials. Dr. Dent gained his PhD in materials science from the University of Cambridge in England and will be playing a key role in Material Connexion's expansion of its technical knowledge base. Prior to joining the company he has worked on research projects in the UK with Rolls Royce Plc and in the US with both the Defense Advanced Projects Research Agency (DARPA) and also with NASA.
