Introduction

Milletia™ Wall Sconces

The idea behind the MilletiaTM wall sconces designed by Mr. Stephane Pagani was to create delicate "floating" lamps that cast light up and down, illuminating the staircase architectural details. To achieve the best solution, Cotule Lighting Design turned to the Material ConneXion Library.

Case study

The projected vertical light serves to complement the vertical circular space of the staircase. The architectural details include moldings, dark wood and marble steps and the lamp hardware is made of wenge, a dark exotic hardwood.

The shade material chosen for this project is aluminum striped fabric (by Nuno Fabricks). The innovative application allows the fabric to glow, reflecting projected light onto the wall, while permitting to see the details of the staircase and to complete the overall look. This quality was achieved by the semi-reflective and semi-translucent properties of the material.

Conclusion

The introduction of new fixtures to an older environment is always a challenge, especially in a prestigious environment like the Felissimo Grand Hotel staircase. Materials, as well as their use, must be studied carefully. Material ConneXion's Library was able to provide Cotule Lighting Design with a successful solution.
