Introduction

This Pompei A.D. project for the Urban Outfitters Showroom represented a complete renovation. This retailer features three urban house brands: Bulldog, Free People and COOP. The original space was designed by Pompei A.D. 6 years ago.

Case Study

Urban Outfitters wanted their renovated showroom to reflect a contemporary look yet still reflect the ambiance of their other stores throughout the United States and Great Britain.

The renovation included a reconfiguration of the showroom, offices, lobby area and the addition of a storage area. A basic design goal sought the juxtaposition of soft and hard materials with color highlights to mirror the diversity of fashion. The materials that were chosen for this project include LUMAsiteŽ, R-Sand, brushed aluminum and translucent white Plexiglas. These materials were adapted for various applications, such as the use of LUMAsiteŽ to create a translucent horizontal membrane for partitions. This same product, as a wall covering surface, when mounted on a turquoise painted wall, created additional depth.

Conclusion

Specific materials can be diversified easily by inventing unique applications. The Material ConneXion Library and its information on varied uses was the springboard for adapting applications beyond the current, more typical uses.
