High loft, 100% polyester (polyethylene terephthalate, PET) nonwoven composed of three bonded layers. This nonwoven merges the construction ease of roll goods with the softness and fiber motion of loose fill. Loose fills have a hand-feel more reminiscent of down/feather fills and have more volume. Conversely, roll goods are easy to cut and sew, are more stable in use, and have more consistent insulation performance. To leverage the benefits of both insulation styles, a 3-layered structure with varying degrees of bonding is utilized. The topmost and bottommost layers are well bonded with a light adhesive and, though thin, have consistent fiber density. The core layer has limited bonding and very open fiber spacing in all directions: machine, cross, and through thickness. This construction combination allows for very voluminous structure, and free range of fiber motion while retaining overall dimensions and product integrity. The PET fibers are siliconized for smoothness and motion, air-laid into their respective structures, then lightly chemically bonded with an adhesive. Further detail on the fabrication technique and multilayer combination is proprietary. All roll good options are offered at 154 cm wide (51 in), weight and thicknesses are as follows: SEL 80, 80 gsm (2.4 oz/yd2), 13 mm (0.4 in); SEL 100, 100 gsm (2.9 oz/yd2), 16 mm (0.6 in); SEL 120, 120 gsm (3.5 oz/yd2), 20 mm (0.8 in); SEL 150, 150 gsm (4.4 oz/yd2), 22 mm (0.8). All offerings are white in color. Customization of the core material is not available; however, the majority of aesthetic is created during fabrication and assembly. The insulation has low weight paired with high insulation value. Thermal insulation properties for the roll good options are as follows: SEL 80, 0.33 RCT, 2.12 CLO; SEL 100, 0.34 RCT, 2.19 CLO; SEL 120, 0.39 RCT, 2.51 CLO; SEL 150, 0.44 RCT, 2.84 CLO. The fill is compatible with machine washing at low temperatures and machine drying at cool settings. The multi-layer fiber web is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified. Applications include outerwear, apparel, bedding, linens, and upholstery.
