Midweight denim fabric (71% cotton/28% polyester/1% spandex) that combines the durability and wicking performance of polyester/cotton blends, while using post-consumer recycled polyester that also biodegrades 12x faster than traditional polyester. Natural and synthetic denim blends provide enhanced performance, but are difficult to recycle. The polyester in this denim is specifically designed to break down under anaerobic conditions to prevent long term landfill buildup. The polyester provides double the weft strength, providing better durability over 100% cotton denim. The synthetic fibers also help with wicking (pulling moisture away from the skin) and provide 50% faster drying times by absorbing less moisture. The warp is made from indigo rope-dyed cotton warp with 100% post-consumer recycled PET fiber in the weft. The polyester staple fibers are ring-spun yarn for a smooth surface and soft hand. The warp and weft are woven in a 3 x 1 twill construction. The denim has a weight of 12 osy (406 gsm) and is sold by the yard at 62.5 in (1.59 m) wide. The denim is only available in indigo. The polyester has been tested according to ASTM 5511, resulting in 72.5% biodegradation after one year (versus a control polyester that had 6.0% biodegradation and a control cellulosic that has 75.7% biodegradation). The polyester fibers are certified by SCS Global Services to have 100% post-consumer recycled polyester content. Applications include fashion and apparel.
