Continuous roll-to-roll laser processing for detailed surface modification. This machinery and technique significantly expand the speed and dimensions of laser processing, expanding it to higher volume applications. Precise tuning of power levels allows for degrees of output, from perforation and light etching to gradations. As the material is unspooled from its original roll and onto another, it passes under the work-area of the laser, which modifies the surface on contact. The speed of the material transfer and laser path are aligned in their timing to make the process a continuous one. Roll goods up to 1.9 m in width (75 in) can be processed. The entire roll must be 30 kg (66 lb.) or less in weight. An enormous range of materials are compatible with this system, provided they are flexible enough to be processed in a roll-to-roll system. This includes, but is not limited to, fabric of all types (velvets to chiffons), polymer films (no PVC), metalized films, and coated fabrics. Color is determined by the substrate. Customers can provide their own substrates for alteration, as well as their own designs and data files for pattern creation. Applications include apparel, footwear, accessories, interior design, upholstery, and automotive interiors.
