Cool-to touch, air-activated fabric that provides continuous cooling. This material uses a proprietary combination of minerals (one that has high thermal diffusivity and the other that has a low thermal diffusivity but a high refractive index) that are extruded in the core of the fiber and are air-activated, offering a cooling touch and sustained cooling of the skin. Contrary to this technology, other cooling materials on the market are based on moisture wicking or are chemically treated in a dye bath. The material also does not use jade, mica, or silica as its mineral compound. Because the minerals are embedded within the fiber rather than a top-surface coating, the cooling effect will last the life of the product and not wash out. The Qmax (a standard to measure the maximum heat loss at the moment of simulation when skin comes in contact with the fabric) ranges from 0.15 to 0.23 depending on the fabric construction, and WATson testing showcased a drop in temperature between 2 ˚C–5 ˚C. The cooling fabrics are highly customizable with multiple filament sizes: Nylon is available in 20 denier, 40 denier, 70 denier, and 140 denier and Polyester in 75 denier. Applications include baby swaddlers, bedding, men’s suiting, intimate wear, and outdoor apparel.
